This unusual family name has been floating around in our family for ages. Curiosity finally got the better of me and I began family research on this name. I wanted to discover the surname history behind Ogle Moore. I started with my grandfather JOHN JAMES OGLE MOORE. I soon discovered there are other John James Ogle Moores and even other Ogle Moores as I went through my family search. The name is Ogle is most commonly a Christian or middle name and teamed with the surname Moore.

Researching the history of family has lead to many interesting facts and stories about the Ogle Moore connection. Taking us mostly to a family history, Ireland and Australia. Amateur genealogists are so lucky today. We have the world wide web. There is so much information available at our fingertips. 2o years ago family research could only have been achieved by trawling through microfiche, books and other records held in libraries around the world. Nowdays many of us can sit in our own loungerooms and search the web for information on our family history. Some of this information on family genealogy is available at no cost and other information is available at a reasonable cost. There is even softwareavailable that can build a very detailed and complex family tree on your own home computer. Thank goodness for the web!

Irish Marriage Records - Not all is Lost

When conduting my family research I started with little information. In my search for the illusive John James Ogle Moore I had little to go on. I had read that most of the Church of Ireland registers were destroyed in the fire at the Public Record Office in Dublin in 1922. As I no dates and was unsure of names and places I did not think I could apply for any records and that my family search had ended.

Finally at desperation point to uncover this family genealogy I decided to apply for a marriage record with minimal information. Imagine my shock when the marriage certificate arrived in the mail only weeks later. This was the link I had been looking for to connect my family tree into another family tree with the same surname history. This gave me many generations of family history.

So when searching for family history in Ireland take the chance, use the little bits of information you have and apply for the records. You could be lucky and your family tree will unfold before your eyes like mine.

Son of The Very Reverend William Ogle Moore and Anna Casey
Died: 1881 Queensland Australia
Employed: 1861-1862 Clerk of Petty Sessions, Mount Abundance, Australia.
Listed in 1872 Squatter Aratula Deniliquin NSW(Greville Post Directory).
This is an Ogle moore we know very little about. He was only discovered to have existed fairly recently. Anyone who can add anything please do.

Helen Ogle Moore

Born: 1885 Dandenong Victoria Australia
Born to: Dr Henry (Hy) Ogle Moore and Jane Sara Montgomery
Died:11th November1968 in Malvern, Melbourne, Victoria aged 83 years
Helen did not marry.

Helen was the Chief Lieutenant of the work of Jessie Boucherett an advocate of the women's suffrage movement. She was working for womens rights way back then. When Jessie passed away, whe willed her dog "Rock" and a sum of money per annum to Helen Ogle Moore. (The Women's Suffrage Movement 1866 - 1928).

Phyllis Ogle Moore - god daughter to 31st President of the USA.

Born:1898 Western Australia
Born to: John Ogle Moore and Eena Lee Moore
Lived: 6 Elizabeth St Kalgoorlie "Hoover House"
Godfather: Herbert Hoover. 31st President of the USA. She received a silver napkin ring from him as a gift and used it all her life.
Sister: Jean Moore
School: Girls high School, Cottelsoe Western Australia (later became St Hilda's).

Phyllis danced for the famous ballerina, Anna Pavlova, as a child in Western Australia. Apparently Anna was impressed but Phyllis' grandmother would not hear of her joining the stage.
Phyllis' mother (Eena Lee Moore) was part of the "Smart Set" and attended many lavish balls and functions. The women wore elaborate gowns. Included in the "Smart Set" were many of the mothers, wives and daughter of the leading men of mining. Mrs Brookman was part of this set, her husband discovered many of the richest mines in the Golden Mile, Kalgoorlie.

Baroness Collins nee Jane Ogle Moore

Born:1841 Ireland
Born to: The Very Reverend William Ogle Moore and Anna Casey
Married: Sir Richard Henn Collins 1862 and became Baroness Collins from 1907.
Died: 5th March 1934.
Jane's husband was the third most senior Judge in Ireland and the first judge in the trials of Oscar Wilde. Sir Richard Henn Collins held many important positions.
